Great call! | 3:35 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Good job UHSSAA for making the right call. Mike is a great athlete and deserves to play this week and help his team get to the title game. What's even more awesome, is that the Ref's actually went with the film to have the right call made. (If that's what really happened) Anyways, it all worked out.
Region 9 rocks | 3:51 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
I'm glad they reviewed the play and made the right call. I saw the play. Props to the officials for asking for the review. They along with the UHSAA did the right thing. I'm looking forward to the game and the Hurricane game. They should both roll into the finals on Fri.! Way to represent Region 9!

Playoffs, couldnt be better for this kids.
Impressed.... | 4:49 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
I'm impressed that the officials asked for it to be reviewed because they weren't completely sure. That takes some guts say that you might be wrong and it needs to be looked at! I applaud them!
Thursday, the game's on Thursday | 5:14 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
I was at the game on Friday, and the play in question took place directly in front of where we were sitting.

Honestly, from our vantage point, you couldn't see what was happening down in that pile.

However, I give "kudos" to the officials for their diligence in making sure that an injustice didn't take place by not letting Sharp play on THURSDAY.

Mike's a great young man, and he and his teammates deserve this opportunity to play in the semi finals at Rice Eccles Stadium. They have worked too hard to be penalized at this stage in the season on a questionable judgment call.

To have penalized Sharp and the Flyers for what transpired on Friday would have been unfair.

I applaud the UHSSA and the officials for "doing the right thing".

Good luck Flyers, and thanks again to the officiating crew who stepped back, and did their best to rectify a situation that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

the game was a Dixie High and not at Washington Terrace
There is integrity | 6:56 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
You made the right decision! When it comes down to it the right decision has been made. I have a new found respect for the system. Now may the best team win!
Sharp's reaction | 7:20 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
just after the incident was that of someone that was guilty of wrongdoing. And the thing that gets me is that there was no argument by him, or his coaches (Monkres acted like he wasn't at all surprised); which seems strange considering the stink that was raised after the fact...
If it was not a State Playoff, Sharp would not have been excused from his suspension.
Way to have a double standard UHSAA.
good job refs | 8:02 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
you moved up in my book. go flyers. lets finally break the semis and go on to state
re: Sharp's reaction | 8:34 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Were you watching the same game that the rest of us were? Sharp was ready to play the next play while the refs were discussing the situation for about 5 minutes. He didn't sit there and argue with the refs because that is the caliber of kid that he is. When the tossed him, he showed more surprise and shock than anyone on the field. Coach Monkres sat and argued with the refs for about 2 or 3 minutes. We were nervous that the refs were going to toss him, too. If we are talking about reactions. It seems silly that Sharp would punch a kid, but the kid would sit there and not react in any way. I don't know how you wanted the two of them to react, but from my point of view, they acted with class and were great sports about it.

Good luck dixie! Represent region 9 well
DHS Alum | 8:44 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
You simply cannot proclaim somebody guilty or innocent by their reaction to punishment. I see your point but everybody reacts differently in emotional situations.

And to wont matter... Yeah we'll see.. I said it last week, Bonneville's defense wouldn't be able to stop the playmaking ability of Dixie's stars. The same this week. Sharp, Matuauto, Reber and Smith. You won't stop them and Dixie will be playing for a state championship next week.

Prediction: 27-17
Leads by example | 8:47 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Maybe you would have preferred it if Coach Monkres'
face and language would have turned blue like some of the unnamed coaches in this region at a perceived injustice. Instead, he accepted the ruling, installed a new QB, shrunk the playbook, and finished playing with the hand he was dealt. After you coach long enough you realize that most calls are not changed regardless of how juvenile the head coach acts. If Sharp had not been vindicated, Dixie would have game planned for Springville without him. I assure you that the Red Devil team and coaching staff want to play the Dixie team that earned its way to the semi-final level. It should be a great game.
Thanks to the referees for differenciating between a punch and a defensive arm swing.
GO FLYERS!! | 1:43 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Make Region 9 and St. George proud! Good luck to the Tigers of Hurricane too!
Hurricane | 9:26 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Sharp is a stud, a good class act. It will be a good game that can go either way. Dont count Dixie out they have got better over the last games. And they have played before which makes this game good, they both know what to expect.
Go Region 9 | 10:11 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Go Dixie, and Hurricane! Lets have two region 9 teams playing for a state championship! Good luck to both teams, make southern Utah proud!
Re:Anonymous | 10:42 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
I'm not sure what video you saw, or if you are from Springville, or Pine View, or what ax you have to grind, but yesterday I viewed the video from the Dixie sidelines that was sent to the state. The play happened quickly with a Bonneville player jumping late onto the pile, and Mike was clearly on his stomach with his hand getting twisted or crushed. He jerked his hand upward to get his hand out from under the pile and accidentally hit the other players helmet or shoulder pad. It was clearly not a fight where punches were being thrown, and I don't believe for a second that Mike was intentionally trying to hurt anyone, I think he was afraid for his throwing hand. The UHSAA made the right call, give this story a rest already!
Video | 10:55 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Is there a Youtube or some other video link to this play so we can all see it?
Knowwhat | 11:47 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
This is a good decision in 2 ways, both teams should be at full strength in the playoffs and it gives a glimmer of hope that a Utah high school officiating crew can actually think that they are wrong and would like some help learning and improving. If only the officials from the northern part of the state had an ounce of this integrity.
Desert Hills Fan | 12:47 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Good luck Dixie and Hurricane. Both of you have had great years so enjoy your experience at Rice. I wish I could be there to watch and cheer you on.
Because of the game | 12:53 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Had this been another game, the officials never would have called for the review, never. They just did it because they felt bad because he was going to miss the biggest game of his life. Now, the precedence has been set, and if there's any doubt it was correct, the officials need to ask for a review regardless of what's at stake in the next game. Just be consistent UHSAA.
Springville Fan | 3:22 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Im glad that Sharp is back in. That will make it a better game. Also when we beat them they cant say that we didnt play their full team. This is going to be a great game see you on Thursday. Whoever wins will make a great opponent for the TV MC winner. Bring a good game Dixie and good luck.
It is obvious that  | 3:39 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
you are not an official. If you are you would know that on a 5 man crew there is no side judge! You would also be aware that you don't throw one of your partners under the bus!
Re: Check the track record | 5:10 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
You need to back yourself up. I go to dixie and you could not be more wrong. Get off your high horse and your glory stories and accept that there are exceptional athletes out there that are genuinally good people too!
realist | 6:30 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
What does it matter, both teams will be playing for the right to be the loser of the 4A championship. Neither of these teams can keep up with Timpview or Mountain Crest and all of you know it.
Re: Realist | 7:15 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Hey realist, did you forget that Dixie took you to the wire last year. I would agree that MC & Timpview are the top 2 4A teams in the state, but don't discredit Dixie and Springville for making it this far. I know the players don't have the same mentality as you. As soon as you think the other team has no shot against you, you increase your chances of a loss. Good luck Dixie and Springville, I want one of you to win it all even if it is a long shot.
Re: Realist | 7:17 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Its funny you even put moutain crest in that post, i agree the neither dixie nor springville stands a chance but come on, mountain crest? we'll be seeing timp view thats for sure!
now listen here | 7:31 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
listen..mikes a good kid and he deserves to play in the semis..the ref made a mistake and it was corrected end of story..and all of you springville fans need to grow up and realize your chances of winning are over..im sure you were all pretty stoked when you heard of the ejection. Mike if your reading this comment good luck bro kick some springville butt!!!
Way to go "Z"! | 8:50 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Nice job Mackenzy! We ALWAYS knew you were going somewhere to play ball! Glad you got your wish to play out of state:)
Congrats!!
Dixie Boyz | 9:05 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
We don't need anymore bad mouthin on here from Dixie or Springville!!! it'll be a good game to watch! Good Luck to Both Teams! Go Flyers!!!!
Re: realist | 8:15 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Realist... you are way off base here! Not in your opinion of the outcome of the championship game but for putting Dixie and Springville down! Be positive, show some class and let the kids play and do their best... bigger upsets have occurred. Regarding "Sharp's reaction," you too are are way off base! Watch the tape, get to know the kid (and if you can't, don't speak negatively) but don't make a judgment because he didn't react like someone like you would react!
Southern Comfort | 8:15 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
This just assures Dixie will take State! Your next Springville! Go Dixie!
