Texas Loss, Florida beats Bama, MWC wins the national championship! (I don't think Florida can beat TCU)

Book your burnt orange tickets to Pasadena. Here comes UT's 5th NC!!!
One More Week | 12:02 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
for the Utes to enjoy their 15 minutes. Next week, TCU stays the same, BYU moves up, and Utah moves down when the Utes get blasted by the Frogs. Then, the Utes travel to Provo for a whupping and an exit from the polls. Oh well, there's always next year (or not).

TCU should get a shot at the national championship game
Hook this | 12:23 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Big XII = no defense. The SEC will dismantle Texas. You may have forgotten that your team actually managed to make Ohio State look respectable, but nobody else has.
Clueless Mort | 12:26 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
While TCU is a decent team I VERY MUCH doubt that the Frogs could beat Florida. BTW who is going to beat Texas? A&M ?? Kansas??? Baylor ???? Dont make me laugh. Why are MWC fans so CLUELESS? Even if TCU were to play Florida or Alabama and win it would be a win for TCU not the blankety blank MWC
Go Utes | 12:28 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Don't fret - Utah is still in the running for not only a BCS game, but the national Championship. With Wynn at QB we can't and won't be stopped - and TCU will be the next opponent to discover how good we really are!

Out next goal is a national champtionship and it is now in our grasp!

Go Utes!
Alabama | 12:32 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
How overrated is Alabama? Their offense is the Cleveland Browns of the top 25.

IF TCU beats the mighty Utes, it would be great to see them get Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. TCU would work the Crimson Cry just like the Utes did.
Bub | 12:47 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Lets hope BYU doesnt have to play Huntington Park High in a bowl game .They might lose their ranking.Hey Utes, the holy war this year is to see who gets to wash the dishes, thats all.
Congrats!!! | 1:15 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Congrats to TCU and BYU!!!
Yner's predictions. . .  | 1:17 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Just might be true, Utah could very well lose to TCU. If it's close don't count on much of a drop. See LSU in this weeks poll and there's always a chance of a major upset. When the Utes travel to TDS the overall team speed will BLAST the kittens.

re: One More Week.

15 minutes? Try two years. You do realize they have won 22 of their last 23 dating back to the end of 2007, right? You also realize the Utes have done pretty well with the Horned Frogs. I'm guessing your prognostication skills are right up there with your poor use of cliches.

RE: One More Week | 1:32 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
In case you haven't been paying attention since Utah hired Fred Whittingham an subsequently his son Kyle, there is this aspect of the game that Utah is pretty good at and it called DEFENSE. It's a major reason Utah is 8-1 this season without much offensive production. Utah's defense is perfectly capable of holding it's own against TCU, BYU, or anybody else for that matter. TCU may very well win next week, but they will have to work for it.

Oh, and as far as BYU is concerned. Since 1990 BYU has won 9 times and Utah has won 10. You Cougar fans need to realize you have a 50% chance of loosing every year regardless of your record or Utah's record it's the norm. Get used to it. Talk all the smack you want, but at the end of the day you stand as good a chance of loosing as you do winning.
Duh | 1:34 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Even thought I don't like TCU, I am rooting for them now. Don't care about Utah, TCU or Boise State will get that auto bid. If they lose, no one gets it. We again are going to see 3 loss teams in the BCS bowls. What's new.
BYWho? | 1:35 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Team Down South better not get too comfortable in the Top 25...Utah might lose to TCU, but the Utes will handle TDS in Provo.....
Re: one more week | 1:36 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Really. All any team has to do is get to your quarterback a few times and Mr. Will just throw the ball away to the other team. Can I hear repeat of last year were your quaterback hand the utes the game?
Next Year? | 1:40 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
You're making it sound as if BYU has some huge accomplishment this year...which they don't.
Re: One More Week | 1:43 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Weren't you the same person who placed the same post last year just before the Sugar Bowl?
Re: One More Week, II | 1:50 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
P.S. Oh, wait, last year the order was reversed. So, you must have written your post just before the BYU-Utah game. Sorry, my bad.

First the Utes were to going to be whupped by BYU, then get blasted off the field by Alabama.

So, yea, there's always next year, I suppose.

Or, there's always last year, too.

Maybe we should let the Utes play the game next week and see what happens.
One more weak delusion | 2:04 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Cougars get worked by TCU and win after a bye week and Ciugsr fans are ready to declare a complete collapse of the Utes. I don't predict victory, but even with a freshmen QB and on the road, the Utes will make it more respectable than the road kill down south. What are you playing for YBU, a chance to beat a frosh quarterback from Utah and an inevitable loss to Cal, Arizona state, or some other also ran from the PAC 10 in the Vegas Bowl? Oh, forgot, you are waiting for Max Hall to be announced as the next Heisman winner from BYU.
Anonymous | 2:59 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
actually there is no need to wait until next week - the bcs standings just came out and utah dropped two places and byu moved up to 22nd from not being in last week. and i'm neither a fan of utah nor byu
Righteous! | 3:05 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
I hope Utah wins out this year and goes to another BCS bowl game. Little by little we'll make ground to match that magical (tainted) Nat'l Championship won before I was born....I mean in 1984.
@ MiP | 3:21 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
You do realize Utah ha won 22 of their last 24 right? One of which was to BYU - 2007
These polls are ridiculous | 3:23 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Seriously, Oregon blasted USC last week and now they are 3 spots behind with basically the same record?!! Sure Oregon lost to a decent (and now ranked) Stanford team, but USC barely squeaked by a terrible ASU team. It's ridiculous how much love some teams get for not being that great.
TCU #1 | 3:31 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Utes were LUCKY to beat TCU last year. We all know who has the better program. TCU has now shown its dominance over BYU and will soon put Utah back in their place as well.

You guys in Utah just don't get it. TCU is the real deal with the strongest team ever in the Mountain West, and they will prove it by winning out. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool and simply does not know college football.
OVER RATED UTAH | 3:43 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
I think TCU will thump UTAH. If BYU plays an average game, they will also. Anybody that thinks that UTAH is going to win either of these two games is up in the night.
Anonymous | 3:48 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
I don't think the Utes have a very good chance on Saturday but they sure won't embarrass themselves like byu did a few weeks ago. The crazy cougar fans on this post need to get a life. Two bcs bowls in the past 5 yrs vs. 1 joke of a national championship 25 years ago. Off the top of your head, who won the national championship in 1983 or 1985? Oh ya, it was twenty something years ago and nobody cares.
re: tcu #1 | 3:54 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Tcu is absolutely a good team this year but you can't say they would have beaten the 04 utes.
Anonymous | 4:05 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Sorry Utes. I've watched all your games this year. While BYU isn't that great this year, they are easily better than the Utes.
Prediction:

BYU - 28
Utah - 14
WinSum | 4:10 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Go Frogs.....they have the best chance to do the MWC a big favor this year. Utah did it last year and is to be commended....this could be TCU's chance this year!
I really like BYU, but.....reality has shown they are not consistent in playing "good teams." I don't know what the problem is....but seems to lack creativity in play-calling on both Offense & Defense??? Too predictable???
Everything coming up BurntOrange | 4:20 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Cry what you want, but Texas will be playing for its 5th NC in January. This year they have put together an incredible defense to go with Colt McCoy's offense. This is not Chokelahoma.
Re. Go Utes | 4:21 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
"Don't fret - Utah is still in the running for not only a BCS game, but the national Championship"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Oh man, that's just too funny. If the Utes won the rest of their games they wouldn't be in a BCS game, let alone the championship
re: Clueless Mort  | 4:23 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
for definition of clueless, see mirror

"if TCU were to play Florida or Alabama and win it would be a win for TCU not the blankety blank MWC"

teams that win national championships ALWAYS, without except, bring prestige to the conference that they're members of

ANYBODY who's followed college football for longer than the last 10 mins, knows that

so either you're clueless, or you're a hater, or both

I suspect both
loosing | 4:29 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
but, there's a 100% chance you don't know what you're talking about

if Utah's defense is soooo good, why didn't Utah hold Wyoming scoreless at home

why has Kyle lost to every team in the MWC since he's been head coach

Utah doesn't have the defense or offense to compete with TCU, or BYU, this season
No Pressure | 4:39 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Once again the Utes will show up against the Frogs. The question is: Can the Frogs handle the pressure?

Last I checked the Utes match up well and have a commanding lead in the series.

Just keep yapping.
Guido | 4:40 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
What about BSU... Im so tired of hearing that they dont have a strong schedule... a WIN is a WIN...and at this point it seems it doesnt matter who they play and beat thier is always an excuse why they don't belong....
Duh | 4:43 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Yakity yak, yakity yak....the games will speak for themselves, until then it's only trash talk. Ohhh it is going to be so fun to play for the loser bowl in Vegas.
B. | 4:45 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Sorry Ute fans. It's not going to happen against TCU this year. You were lucky to win last year. I do think the U will not be embarrassed the way BYU was. BYU fans, your team has tons of talent and great potential, but they are psychologically fragile. Utah will score a quick one against them and Max and Co. will fold fast. Watch.
English Class | 4:46 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Could we have a requirment before making a post? Will everyone please look up the proper spelling of "loosing" or "looser" or "loose"... I'm afraid the level of critism does indeed match the level of education for many Zoobs. Your beloved coach was right.
Dave | 5:02 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
a win for the utes and not moving up in the BCS...in fact moved down even with losses in the top 10. Goes to show that the Utes strength of schedule and miserable performances are now coming to haunt them. Sure they have only one loss, but a team with one loss outside a BCS conference won't get a national championship and in all likelyhood won't get a BCS bid. Even if the beat TCU, it won't propel them high enough for a BCS consideration.
The Truth | 5:17 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Okay, TCU fans your right, this is your year. You'll probably beat the Utes, I don't think TCU will drop 38 on them like they did to a pathetic BYU team, but they'll probably win. As for you Texas, Florida and 'Bama fans, sorry guys, the truth is the Mountain West is obviously just is strong as the SEC (if not better), and the Big 12 is a joke. Seriously Texas look at your conferance, everyone else besides you look horrbile. Oh yeah BSU you guys deserve a BCS game too, but don't let that get to your heads because your schedule is pretty weak. 'Nuff Said!
utes should not be ranked | 5:24 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
If the Utes lose as big to TCU as did the Y, the utes also should drop out of polls( as the Y did). Having said that, as Y fan, losing to Florida State is killing us because FSU is very bad.
Overrated | 5:42 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Both BYU and Utah are overrated. BYU should not be ranked and (for the moment anyway) Utah should be about where BYU is. TCU also shouldn't be number 4 and BSU should be around where Utah is right now.
The | 5:48 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
"looser" the "critism," the more I love it.

Of course the Utes deserve to be ranked. They win every week. They played Oregon close. Even if they lose to TCU, they should stay in the rankings. Have you seen what else is out there in college football?

But don't count the Utes out. If they can manage not to drop the ball, they will stay with TCU down to end. Turnovers will be the difference in the game.

Good luck, Utah. Take it to them. The very idea of a purple horny toad makes me want to puke.
BEWARE! | 5:54 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Teams from automatic qualifying conferences should be scared to schedule BYU. Not because they should be scared of losing, but because it apparently is a curse to be horrible for the rest of the year if you play BYU.
MEB | 6:02 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
@ TCU#1 - Lucky win? Your kicker just can't make a field goal. And you think you deserved to win anyway? How many BCS busting seasons have the Horned Frogs had? Oh yeah, none! How many MWC Championships have they won? Oh yeah, 1 in 11 seasons! Strongest team ever in the Mountain West? Not hardly. They are a great team, and I hope they bowl bust, but you, my friend are delirious!

And Anonymous 4:05 - No one has put up 28 points on the studly Ute defense this year, and you think your hapless Cougs are going to pull that off? I have two words for you - Florida State! OK, two more - Horned Frogs! Your offense stinks when you play a real team.
Re: English Class | 6:06 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
I don't know who you're talking about, the most blatant abuser of the word "loose" in this thread is an obvious Ute fan; see "RE: One More Week" at 1:32 pm.

He doesn't know his history very well, either. Other than last year's miracle season, the Utes under Whittingham have been a consistent 3rd or 4th place team in the MWC.

Which is where they will be at the end of this month after losing to TCU and BYU.
Re: MiP | 6:14 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
You do realize that cuts both ways, don't you?

Last year going into the TCU game BYU had won 27 out of its previous 29 games, and 17 of its previous 18.

We all know what happened that night in Fort Worth.

Look for the Utes to provide a repeat performance of the BYU debacle this year.

Like BYU did last year, they have been sliding by the Colorado States and UNLVs on their schedule and reassuring themselves by saying the close games demonstrated they "knew how to win".

And like BYU last year, the close games against mediocre teams showed the Cougars were very vulnerable to being exploited by a good team.

Just as the Utes are very vulnerable to being exploited by a nationally-ranked team that is playing at the peak of its game, as opposed to a Ute team which is still trying to figure out who is going to be quarterback.

TCU wins in a walk. It won't be pretty.
NC....not so fast | 6:14 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
I actually think TCU is better than Alabama, but I don't think the Frogs are better than Florida or Texas. Looking at the rest of the season, I highly doubt that either Florida or Texas will lose a game (unless Florida loses to Alabama, in which case Alabama and Texas will square off for the NC).

In any event, the thing I find more laughable is that USC is ranked in the top 10 AND ranked higher than Oregon. First off, Oregon smoked USC. Second, USC probably won't even win the Pac-10 this year. I find it incredibly ridiculous that the voters keep a 2-loss USC in the top 10. What's more, it took 4 losses for Oklahoma to finally get kicked out of the top 25.

There is obviously some bias toward the more traditional powerhouse teams. The BCS is most definitely centered around money...they want big-name schools at their bowl games because they know those teams have big followings. It's all about ratings and money. USC may have the fans, but they don't have the talent. Sorry Pac-10. Sorry BCS.
