The 4A bracket is a complete joke. You got the number 1 and 2 teams in the state in the top bracket and then two average teams in the bottom bracket. The championship game final score is going to be 56-14.

How do they play 2 games at once at RES?? As I read the schedule, Bingham-Alta and Dixie-Springville are being played at RES on Friday at 2:30 and Hunter-Davis and MC-Timpview are being played at RES on Friday at 6:00.

I'm guessing either the 4A or 5A games will be played on Thursday. Anyone know which ones?

That's kind of premature to say at this point seeing as how Dixie and Springville haven't had to play any of the top 4A teams other than each other this year. If Dixie can beat Springville without their starting QB this week I think they're definitely good enough to compete with either TV or MC when they get him back. If you don't remember Dixie nearly beat Mountain Crest last year.

I've been watching high school football extensively the past few years, especially in the upper divisions. There is a real problem with the 4A playoff scheduling. Timpview and Mountain Crest are hands-down the 2 best teams in their division. As such, the real 4A championship will be played next week when they meet in their 4A semi-final game. Whichever team wins that game should be crowned that night, next week. Hopefully, such erroneous seedings can be avoided in the future.

Agree. TV and Mtn Crest may be the best two games, but let's play it out and see. Wonder how Mtn Crest will match up with TV after having lost two years in a row in the Semi Finals. They must be itching to finally beat TV!

Yes, same situation in 5A as 4A; hands down the best two teams AND the two teams most people would pay to watch, play not in the championship, but in the semis.
UHSAA has their own little BCS, huh?
Would it be too difficult to seed better and not just placing regions against regions within brackets, and flipping it the following year? I would rather see these two games be the championship stage. Consider it, ignore it, justify yourselves, and keep giving us the best games before the important one. Amazing!!!

Timpview/Mountain Crest. The match-up that all 4A has been looking forward to all season long. Both teams have been DOMINANT this year and it's looking to be a match-up of an unstoppable force and an immovable object. Before all the pregame smack begins, may I say... May the best team win. And whoever doesn't can look back on this year and take something away from it. Either way, I can't see the winner of this game losing the championship game. Congratulations to both teams for having such awesome seasons.

In 4-A Mountain Crest vs. Timpview will be the "real" battle for the championship. SF and Springville played a very close game that was competitive to the end, very similar teams (hats off to Springville for winning but ultimately the two teams are very close). Well Timpview just rolled Spanish Fork and perhaps a Timpview vs. Springville game would be a bit closer but not much. Springville beat Dixie already this year and while it wouldn't be plausible for Dixie to beat Springville, again Timpview is much superior to either team. And Mountain Crest might be the best of them all, must wait and see but I expect the winner of that game to have a much easier game vs. Springville and Dixie the and the 56-14 prediction up there might not be as far off as it says.

In 5-A Alta vs. Bingham is the "real" state championship. You have to respect Davis and Hunter, not sure what Hunter will have left after that emotional victory. Talent wise Bingham and Alta have better overall talent than Hunter or Davis and certainly more diverse offensive attacks. The winner of Alta-Bingham takes state.

Agreement is wrong about the 5A being the same as 4A Davis is just as good as Alta, if not better, same records and all. Just and see what happens : )

can you imagine what timpview would have been like if they hadn't lost Bronson Kaufusi early in the season? I hate when kids don't get to play. too bad about Dixie QB too.

Glad LP and PG lost now I don't have to hear about D1 talent this and super region that. Looks like the UHSAA got is right with all 4 number one seeds in 5A making it to the Semi-finals.

hahaha, how about that region 4, ppl stating all year who is the best, and davis congrats, but still you know the state championship is going to be through a west side school, bingham and hunter, not seen hunter play butthey big boys always wanna fight and battle so good luck, but like I said week one, bingham is to good, and now that the better quicker cantwell is at qb look out... wow!!!

On paper LP and Davis were supposed to lose the games. Hunter was a region champion and so was Davis. The LP-Hunter game went into 4 OT's and Davis won fair and square in a tight game. Now let's see how the second and third place teams did for the other regions. Region 1 Syracuse got crushed by Bingham. Region 2 Cottonwood was handled by Alta and second place Riverton and Region 3 Riverton lost to Region #3 PG at home. The third place team from Region 1 Viewmont was eliminated, the third place team from Region 2 Skyline was crushed and the third place team from Region 3 West Jordan was downed. Only one region performed beyond their seeds and that was Region 4. The second and third place teams were a combined 15 points (though 8 point spread came via OT) of having three teams in the final four. And even Region 4 #4 Jordan gave Bingham a much better game than Syracuse while non qualifier AF beat Riverton, the #2 from Region 2. Region 4 was by far the best and 5-A region and their overall record also proves it.

So, does it really matter what happened to the other teams in region 4 and all the other regions? a win is a win, and a loss is a loss, and what it comes right down to is that all 4 region champions are in the semis! if region 4 was SO much better, they would have at least 2 teams in the semis! and by the way, PG and LP were both supposed to win, according to the "experts"

UHSAA needs to take a hike....I am sick of these brackets that pit the best teams facing off in the semi's instead of the finals....

C'mon UHSAA....forget these brackets and go out on a limb and rank the top eight and place them accordingly.....ALTA AND BINGHAM is the ELITE....the others are just pretenders....
ALTA-Bingham were the elite in 2007 as well...Layton had no Business in the finals and neither will Davis-Hunter.....the finals will be a 50-0 for either Alta/Bingham......

Bring some legitimacy to UTAH HS FOOTBALL...Rank teams by strength...not by region dominance!!

Something needs to be done about the lack of common sense with the seedings. There is no valid reason for two #1 teams to meet in the semi's.

We need to get the Governor involved or someone who can fix this thing before this happens again next year.

All you really need to do is rank the region champions and then go from there. If the top two teams in the state are from the region they will be naturally separated. Just concentrate on that, that is actually doable then trying to seed the top 8 or more teams.

Okay let me get this straight... Riverton almost beat PG and was up at the half. LP crushed PG but LP was defeated by Hunter. Alta was beaten by Bingham and Bingham destroyed AF but if AF was in any other region they would win more games. If Cottonwood plays PG instead of Alta then they advance. Davis can't hang with teams that have 8 D1 players... but they did. I could go on and on but you get the point. The point is that all that blah blah crud analysis doesn't mean beans. Everyone is tired of hearing about how might region 4 WAS. If region 4 was all that then all those teams would be advancing. They are not - end of story. If Alta wins the title they will not be saying hey we are the best region. They will be saying Alta is #1. All your talk is to make your failure seem meaningful. All the boys played hard and well. Give them credit. Look at the scoreboard and leave it at that. Thank you for your kind attention. Go final four teams (3 not in region 4)!!

Not even a fan of Regiono 4 per se. But for the record American Fork, the SIXTH place team from Region 4 beat Riverton the #2 seed from Region 3! Riverton lost to three teams from Region 4. West Jordan lost to two. Davis lost to Brighton, in fact were shutout by Brighton, a non-qualifier from Region 4 who also beat Hunter by the way (Hunter much improved though as is Davis I'm sure but they still lost. There were weeks when Region 4 went 6-1 or 7-0 in non league games and I'm sure their non-league record was the best of any 5-A region (by a lot I would imagine). Again, even AF beat the second place team from Region 3. Indeed, the four region champs advanced to the semi-finals as they did last year actually. In fact, Alta may not beat Bingham, tough task there. But what second and third place teams almost made the semi-finals. Well, that would be Region 2, none of the other regions second place teams were close and Riverton didn't even get out of the first round.

Your logic is all wrong. There are 4 regions, 4 spots in the semis if all 4 #1 ranked teams are in the semis of course they are going to have to play its not like they are going to pull in Roy for a gimme game to get to the finals. Its the playoffs, where everyones previous records Wins & Losses DONT matter anymore because each team is living by each week not by what they were in the regular season. Oh yeah for the region 4 domination guy, you cant make it work because everyone has lost to someone that someone else beat so stop trying to justify region 4's strength cause it looks like there are 2 better teams from other regions based on this last week. Get over it.

So the state title game is going to be meaningless? A 50 Point thrashing you say? that's interesting . . . . let's look at some facts here . . . . Davis beat PG, and PG barely lost to Alta so . . . is alta really that much better than davis? Hunter beat Lone Peak, who DOMINATED every one in Region 4 except Alta! And we know that alta and bingham will be a close game. So based on comparisons, HOW DO YOU GET OFF SAYING IT WILL BE A 50 POINT BLOW-OUT!!!???

who are making strides in bracketing with the UHSAA. They have gone to sectional qualifiers, except for the stubborn 5-A principals, to determine qualifiers for the state qualifiers. This helps make sure that the 16 best wrestlers make the state tournament and the two best wrestlers meet in the finals. But another idea that was bantered around by wrestling people is the idea of seeding the region champions. Seeding 16 individual wrestlers (or teams) would be hard with a lot of arguing. But seeding the top four (or five in 4-A case) region champs is doable. The UHSAA actually has four or five different formulas that they will use over the next years so that Alta and Bingham (Region 3, 4) don't meet every year. All you do is decide what the seeds will be and use that formula. You don't have to be the prisoner of the formula that pits the two best teams in the semi-finals. It isn't brain surgery, the SOLUTION exists and DOABLE.

I agree that the 5-A game won't be a 50 point blowout the 4-A state final game has that possibility.

Dixie will beat Springville. Mark my words. The northern fans once again are ignorant of the southern teams. They know nothing about the southern teams, but continue to make predictions. The earlier game against Springville means nothing on this game. Dixie has improved drastically since the Hurricane game. I haven't seen the same from Springville. They stomped Bonneville. It was 24-0 at one point. Then came the ejection right after Bonneville had scored their 1st touchdown.

Mountain Crest and Timpview are not that dominant as everyone keeps saying. Mountain Crest only beat Bonneville 16-6 at home. Timpview only beat Mountain View 41-21. Everyone matches up differently I know, but the semifinal game is not the championship in 4A.
