Yes, he still is active LDS. He married a wonderful girl this past summer in the temple.

As one who grew up his entire life across the street from Sparky, all I can say is he deserves all the credit he's getting. He was a classy guy all growing up, and a great friend. I remember playing baseball with him everyday as six year olds in my front yard. And he's still in sports...can't say I didn't see his career as a sports writer coming!

I wonder if Sparky could get his head out the clouds and think for a second about his alleged climb up the Daily Universe ladder. As a former Sports Editor there, I know for a fact that some semesters, you only get one or two print journalism majors in the first class, so you by default have to give them the best beats, regardless of talent.

Also, if Sparky wants to be a good sports writer, he's got to understand that you have to be a good writer at all sports, especially when you start at the bottom in the real world. Anyone can write a good football article, but those who can make a tennis, soccer or cross-country article interesting and readable are NOT "scrubs" as Brad Rock's prodigy thinks.
