As a BYU fan I am excited to see him back. Anae and Doman need to use him more than 2-3 times a game. What a waste of talent if they do not. Max and the boys need to finish the season with five in a row.

Thanks for some good information Dick. It will be so great to have McKay back in the lineup. I love reading your stories Dick but thought that one of your comments was unnecessary. That WR for Georgia Tech leads the country with probably 45-50 catches by now compared to 11 for Jacobsen. That's not a good comparison. It's like taking a baseball player whose played in a whopping six games with 20 at bats for a .400 average compared to the best hitter in the league whose batting .330 with over 100 at bats. McKay can't be compared to that guy with only 11 catches. Not a good comparison but I'm very happy he's back. A HUGE addition.
big time | 10:53 p.m. Nov. 2, 2009
ya the comparison is off but if you were to add what he did as a part time starting freshman in 06, avarage out the ypc between that year and this one, you can't avoid the obvious. mckay is a big time threat and playmaker any time they can get him the ball. I'm with excited fan. get him the ball more. If the defense will play the rest of the season the way they played against ou, hungry and aggressive, byu will win out. go cougars.

Who Cares | 6:28 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Who cares, its too late now the seasons done, we might not even make the joke vegas bowl vs the # 5 team in the PAC 10 who would most likley kill us, having him back wouldnt have done 1 thing VS TCU... Hopefully him and Unga arent strechting together.
Cougarf@n | 6:45 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
It will be nice to have a deep threat back in the lineup. McKay's spot at receiver is probably the one spot on the offense (besides QB) where BYU couldn't afford to lose a guy as there's a very significant drop-off in speed going from McKay to the #2s. It's hard to say what kind of impact he'd have had against TCU when BYU got beat in every aspect of the game, but it's good to have him back either way. Hopefully he can pick up where he left off, if not I hope they use him sparingly against Wyoming and UNM so he's healthy for AF, Utah and the Bowl game where we'll really need him.
Y Fan | 6:46 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Poor wyoming, And they almost beat Utah Too. This is gonna be an exiting game to watch

BYU 28
Wyoming 10
I Care | 8:02 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
I'm excited to have him back as I enjoy watching the Cougars compete in their remaining games.
Digbads | 8:05 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Good luck against the Cowboys this week!

Laramie is always a pain to play at, so I hope the Cougs are well prepared for this.
And, great job on building the programs reputation, Cocah Mendenhall. Who could believe that BYU could get blown out of two games, and still be in the top 25. It shows the value of playing quality opponents.
McKay's Uncle??? | 8:13 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Is Dick Harmon McKay Jacobson's uncle? It seems that every story that he writes is about Jacobson.
Prozac | 8:17 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
BYU Football and Utah Jazz Basketball...you gotta love it baby. NOT!!!

Why do I root for these 2 teams? November 3rd and I'm already taking Prozac because of my 2 supposed "teams".

Guess I'm just going to have to jump on the bandwagon and support the Utes and Lakers. I can only handle this losing so much before I realize it might be best to just go with the programs who consistantly win. I think my Prozac bill will be much lighter in the end!

Go Utes??? Go Lakers??? It doesn't feel right but hey, I'm sick of rooting for perrenial losers!
Trueblue RE:who cares | 8:22 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
You have the perfect attitude for defeat. For those of us who have made sports a life long passion, realize that all any player/team can do is play their next game. Win or loose, the best action you can take is to prepare for the next opertunity you have for success. It does matter, Wyoming is a game just like OU was a game and just like TCU was a game. When it is all said and done the only thing that will be rememberd is your record. 11-2 looks a lot better than 6-7 There is more to college football than the BCS. Open your minds people and remove the blinders from your eyes. It's about this Saturday afternoon and thats it, and that's all it ever will be. One game, one play at a time. Enjoy "TODAY" and prepare for tomorrow.
So Cal Y Fan | 8:24 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Jacobsen is needed. It will be great to have him back. "BYU's biggest challenge in two losses has been primarily on the defensive side of things." That's putting things mildly. How about the biggest challenge being squarely on the SOFT d-line. The boys have been non-existent this season. A good defense starts with a strong d-line that stops the run and puts pressure on the quarterback, taking the pressure off of the linebackers and secondary. How about a strong showing by Jorgensen? It'll be his first since his sophomore year! He's been the epitome of "soft."
Don | 8:47 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
And this will make a difference how?
@Prozac  | 8:56 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Please increase your daily dose. It has already interfered with your syntax and judgment, but it may make you less of a menace.
THEeyepatch | 8:59 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Then again............. they are playing Wyoming!
re: TrueBlue | 9:02 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
I didnt realize I had the pleasure of speaking with Bronco himself... Give me a break, nice motivational speech, I am sure you give this every yr when BYU goes 10-2 or 9-3, talk to me when their a consistent team and not at losing big games, consistent at winning them. Nice try.
BYU can win if... | 9:04 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
THEY COMMIT TO RUNNING THE BALL!!!
Why, or why does BYU give up on the run so quickly, i.e., vs Utah in '08 and TCU this year

(not saying they would have won, but it would have been different)

RUN THE BALL AND DON'T PANIC BY THROWING ON EVERY DOWN!
obvious | 9:36 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Has no one but me seen the obvious? Way past time for Robert Anae to disappear and be replaced by someone with even a bit of creativity!! Unga left; Unga right; Unga up the middle; PUNT. And the kicking game - Spend some bucks and buy yourselves a kicking game, Bronco!! How long are we going to have to endure Anae's "Well, I drew it up right. It will work if they just execute."? How about adjusting your play calling to what the defense throws at you? Anae is riding his Texas Tech coattails where in reality he had virtually nothing to do with their offense prowess.
Ernest T. Bass | 9:45 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
This is awesome news!!! Jacobsen is probably one of the best players BYU has EVER had!! There is no chance that BYU can possibly lose to anybody now.
Rose | 9:51 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Rose colored glasses.

Having Jacobsen back only helps if they throw to him.

Having Unga in the backfield only helps if they give him the ball.

Hopefully the strategies and plans which Bronco "sees no reason to change" are good enough for a team like Wyoming. They certainly aren't good enough to win the majority of their games against ranked opponents.

The evidence of pride is an inaccurate, over-inflated view of oneself. If Bronco thinks BYU is doing things well enough, I'd say he fits in that category. To get better, to improve, one must, by definition, change.
once again | 10:37 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
I will state here as I have earlier. What defines success in a season? Certainly not the win-loss record. As we can see Oklahoma is ranked with 3 losses. Why? Because they have one games against quality teams.....something BYU has not done since beating Oklahoma and consistently not done in recent years. If they don't want people to view their win against Oklahoma as a fluke.....maybe they should pull one out in the clutch against a team like TCU. Success is when Coach Mendenhall takes over the program and turns a lackluster BYU team into bowl game players two years later. Success is not having the same result in the same bowl for the next four years after that. One of the reasons BYU doesn't improve is because of fans who continue to say it's okay to do this and okay to have this kind of result. Let's expect more out of our team and maybe, just maybe, we can motivate them out of mediocre performances in critical games.
Waaa | 11:10 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Poor little kittens. NC game talk to clinging on to #25. Such a let down for you...but to be expected every year. I'll hand you this, you're consistent!
Deth | 11:44 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Cold weather on a tender hamstring? I'd wait another week my man.
Ernie | 12:08 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Go back to reading articles about your yewts. It IS awsome news anytime ANY player comes back from injury to rejoint his team mates and friends regardless of our opinion of him or his team. These kids spend allot of time and put forth a tremendous effort to play college football. They make physical sacrifices few of us would be willing to make year round. So, lets not knock the news about any player that returns from injury.
Tip of the iceberg | 12:13 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
There is a lot more wrong with this team than Jacobson missing a few games.

And it ain't necessarily the players!
Furthermore... | 12:14 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Having Jacobson back, well, he sure turned it around for us in the FLA. Game!
Anonymous | 12:20 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
to Waa.. Its all good man, Utah will drop below BYU in the ranks after they play TCU. Way to struggle with Wyoming too.. that was nice to see. And to see Coach Whitt take out your starting qb who had led you to a 6-1 record to put in an unproven qb and now people think he is the man because he lead the Utes to a win over avg Wyoming.
Anonymous | 12:31 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
I hope WYO beats them!!!
Ananymous 2 | 1:05 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
With how poorly Utah has been playing against every opponent, I predict a loss to TCU,BYU, and SDSU. See what happens.
Re: furthermore | 1:19 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
You are funny. He only had two passes thrown his way and caught them both, one for a td. But, you are probably right. Florida State's loss was all on him.
Moose on the Loose | 1:26 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Utah 28
BYU 24

Doesn't matter if Jacobsen is back or not. Utah will roll the Cougars again.
Evil Premonition | 1:58 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
I've had this creepy feeling that Jacobsen will get hurt again and our only true deep threat will be gone till 2010. Hopefully it's just too much Kool Aid, Halloween candy or _______________.(fill in the blank)
True Fans? | 2:41 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
If BYU's record had anything to do with the support they get from their fans, they would go 0-12 every year. I'm sick of ridiculous fans who aren't ever happy, win or lose. I'm with TrueBlue at 8:22 am, 11-2 is a great season. Most teams would die to win 11 games a year. Don't me wrong, I absolutely HATE when BYU loses, but I've come to grips with the fact that I CAN'T DO A THING ABOUT IT. The rest of you should consider doing the same. Quit whining and support your team! If you want to jump off the bandwagon, be my guest. I believe that if the thought even crosses your mind, that's where you belong anyway.

GO COUGS!!!
BYU FAN FORSURE | 3:31 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Jacobsen isnt any better than any of the other wr byu has. They just throw deep to him more often because collie not there any more.Your making out to be a super star thats not that fantastic. And you know he is still hurt.Forget about it and look somewhere else the rest of the season.Chambers and Hafoka need to have the ball more. They have two more years. And one more thing.Let the other guy QB in front of another overated player.Starting to get the picture.See you in San Diego BYU fans.
utah fan | 3:39 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Is this article a joke! mckay jacobson is not fast at all! at tops he runs a 4.7 (for byu that is fast) and cant catch worth squat. but all that doesnt matter because mckay wont get a chance to catch the ball because everytime harvey unga throws it it will bee picked off. Byu fans are so freakin stupid and know nothing about their own team!

Whyoming 47
Byu 15

P.s. bronco should be fired
Dixie Dan | 3:50 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Does Jacobson play defense also?
Cougarf@n | 4:34 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Re: True Fans: Easy there on the criticism of BYU fans. I'm pretty sure BYU was still averaging nearly 60K in attendance after three consecutive losing seasons so there really aren't that many fair weather BYU fans, we're not like Utah. Half their fan base disappears in non-undefeated seasons which is probably why they act like Utah goes to a BCS game every year. I think you might be confusing a lot of Yewt trolls who pretend to be BYU fans with the real thing. No doubt there are a lot of fans frustrated this week, but it's mostly trolls who say Bronco should be fired and Hall should be benched so keep your perspective. This is, afterall, an anonymous message board and Ute fans have much more motivation to be on these boards than BYU fans this week.

Have a little respect for the Native American tribe that the University of Utah take their name from. When you spell YEWT, you not only disrespect former U of U alumni, but also the tribe who were indigenous to the area long before the pioneers arrived. Grow up and have some RESPECT.
Spudman | 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
In case you were wondering, Jacobson was clocked at 4.24 in the forty. He has more speed than Austin Collie did.
good to have him back | 9:59 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Hopefully Jacobson is able to stay healthy for the rest of the year. BYU needs him to spread the field, and I hope that Anae goes for a deep ball now and then. While it likley would not have changed the outcome, having Jacobson for the TCU game would have helped the offense put a few more points on the board.

I would just like to see BYU use more variety, and Bronco et al can then make sure that the team executes some new plays, trick plays, and odd formations at a very high level.

Is Anae still in the press box with Reynolds? If not he needs to get back up there and work with Reynolds on mixing things up a bit on offense. I have a feeling that BYU is not making good use of all his experince and football savy that he has accumulated over the years. He could help Anae be more unpredictable.
BYU Faults | 10:30 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
I read these posts, and a few things stick out.
1. 11-2 does not matter. The BCS bowls are where the real money is.
2. The offense is so predictable. Mix it up, Anae. It is so easy to prepare defensively for the Y. Jacobsen will give them another look, but more have to step up.
3. Where are the halftime adjustments?
4. If the defense gets behind, they roll over and die. The utes might lose, but their defense still gives them a chance. BYU gets blown out. It is embarrasing.
5. Run Unga more. He is the best offensive player on the team.

Re: THEeyepatch | 8:01 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Well one eye willy, it's called free speech or this case freedom of the press. BTW who really cares. Get off the political correctness stuff.Maybe it's time to remove the patch.
Reality Check? | 12:09 a.m. Nov. 6, 2009
Where is all the 11-2 talk coming from? We all know BYU chokes when it comes to bowl games. As a Ute fan, I'm all about the conference in the bowl games, but come on, Vegas Bowl last year? Dissapointment! Maybe 10-3 and that's saying they beat Utah, which nobody, and I mean NOBODY can predict the winner of unless Utah is having seasons like '04 and '08, when BYU just didn't have a shot. I predict 9-4 on the season.
