Nice try with the dog photo. Nevertheless get rid of all these mangy mean dogs.

I think people need to educate themselves about animal behavior before they label a dog mean. Animals have a very active fight or flight response, and if a little child is being aggressive toward that animal they are very likely going to respond in fighting for their own self preservation.

I'm not a big promoter or anything but maybe you should watch some dog whisperer. Ceaser works with Pit-Bulls all the time, and one of his best dogs is a Pit-Bull.

The truly sad story here is that a five-year-old was running around unattending and had a history of harassing a dog. The lesson here should be for parents to keep track of their children and to teach them respect for animals.

Are more powerful these days than human rights.

Let us remember that this is a 5-year old CHILD!

There's no proof he was harassing the dog. Pit bulls are bred to be mean. They've also been known to attack their owners.

Quit excusing the dog and it's owner. The police also said there were ways for the dog to get out on its own.

Maybe we should lock up the kids, and let all the dogs run free, since they're more important anyway.

I agree... Put it down

It's the owners fault for not adequately monitoring his dog, but the dog will pay the price. Five year old kids like dogs should not be allowed to wander around unsupervised. I'm sorry this little boy was injured but if he had a history of poking the dog with a stick, that's unacceptable as well. There are no winners here.

I would tend to believe that, yes, the boy did attack the dog with a broom handle, and if his parents knew about it, they should have punished him for it. We have small dogs in our building that have been abused by previous owners; so it would not surprise me to read that the boy tormended the dog with a broom handle, if he were my kid, and I found out from Neighbors, I would most certainly punish him for it.

You can just call the police on your kid, you don't need to punish him for it, we have laws against hurting animals. Lock up your kid and let the dogs run free!

The lesson here is that pit-bull owners need to take extreme measures to ensure that their deadly dogs aren't able to get loose and maul 5-year-old kids. Your response implies that the kid deserved to get mauled by the dog because nobody taught him that he shouldn't poke the dog with a stick. The plain truth is that the owner has a responsibility to control his dogs. He failed in that responsibility and a kid got mauled because of it. I hope he has a good lawyer, because he's now liable for the kid's injuries.

Pit bulls are dangerous animals. Period. Look up the statistics on dog attacks, pit bulls are far more likely than any other breed to attack people, especially children. They are attack dogs. The breed was created as attack dogs. They may seem gentle and nice, but having a pit bull is simply playing with fire.

How many of us would put up with having dangerous hazardous waste in our own neighborhoods with assurances that it would be kept safe?
When was the last reported attack on a child by a collie or dalmation or labrador?
Do the pit bull defenders honestly expect us to believe that pit bulls are the only dogs ever picked on, so they are the only ones who attack?
This is a dangerous breed that should require special license for commercial use only as a guard dog in a non-residential setting. Period.

When my daughter was 3 she was severly malled by a dog German Shepard) it was the first court case of this kind in Ogden. I went to the city attorney and demanded that the dog be put down!!We took the homeowners to court because the dog owners would not take responsibility. These parents need to know that they do not pay for one dime of his recovery, the dogs owner homeowners pays. In fact it pays until he is recovered up until he is 18.
As for the type of dog .... I have been a dog trainer for 20 years and all dogs can have a tendancy to bite they have to be taught not too and some dogs are just bad!! not neccessarly the breed because my daughter that was malled now owns the sweetest pit bull ever!!

I think people need to educate themselves a little bit better before you go "thinking" you know how pitbulls are. Doing your "research" online finding statitics etc. The reason you don't see other dogs attacking child in the media is because it's not as interesting as a pitbull attack so of course the news will not show anything but pitbulls. I'm sick and tired of people going around thinking they know everything about this breed when really your "info" comes from the MEDIA and seriously if you believe everything you hear on the news and online your just sadly misinformed. oh and FYI, I'm a pround owner of two pits that absolutely love kids. My female loves small child especially babies. You can't punish the breed you need the punish the people that destroy these dogs.
