Mr. Kirby deserves respect and appreciation for the job he is doing for departed officers and deputies. I know from experience how frustrating it can be locating graves, based on sketchy historical documents. It is a huge gesture to families and communities which have lost officers, to make certain they shall retain their place in history....Thank you...

I don't know any of these people, but it is a shame to forget America's military and police heros, no matter when they paid the price for our town. Mr. Kirby, I hope that the family members appreciate that you let the rest of us in Salt Lake County take even a moment so that these formerly forgotten heros are remembered. Who knows? Maybe one of our grandfathers would have, could have been murdered by this criminal had it not been for the brave deputy sheriffs.

This was 96 years ago.... Time to move on i think?

Move on? To where? All heroes should be recognized. What harm is done to give this man a proper burial and recognition? It doesn't really matter where he is buried.

Sometimes we recognize heroes who have long been forgotten for those today who put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms and our peace. We need to be grateful for the heroes of the past and also those who protect us everyday.

I agree with Reenie!
This deceased person is still a significant individual to God.
He Deserves to be Honored. | 8:34 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
People complain because in sports if your opponent defeats you and you fall on the battlefield you're a loser but it's different when you're a police officer or a soldier and you die on the battlefield.
This Rafael Lopez was quite the gunslinger like Billy the Kid...and outlaw and maybe had he been born under better circumstances he'd be a legend as well.
Everybody who complains about this fallen officer being honored should be ashamed of yourselves.
