The white teeth Bob Bernick Jr. boast loudly again that the Utah lawmakers are swimming against a rough tide of public criticism, and IT SHOULD BE. Utah College of Applied Technology executive board should all be fired on the spot, and the school shut down for good, just because they re-appointed a former UCAT director with a blemished past and the State Trust Lands board approved healthy bonuses for some employees while other bonuses for state workers were banned. But the people of Utah won't do squat because they all have a R after their name's. Many of the 104 lawmakers think they are under siege from a group of Utahns who want to greatly tighten lawmakers' ethics rules. And they should feel that way also. It's also about time the local media is more than interested in bashing them at every turn. That's how to keep these crooks in line better. It keeps them honest to.

You got that right, Utah's Gov, Legislature, use power of purse before its head's. There's a Poll out to that says most Utahns believe (health care) is a right ?. That Poll must of been given to the 25 million illegal's living in America, that should be all deported, that believe (health care) is a right to them alone. I dought if they are all Utahns. Or are they?. One never knows, now do they?. Are these Utah lawmakers also swimming up the creek without a paddle against a rough tide of public criticism about this also?. I would like to know.
Government expensive | 10:24 a.m. Oct. 23, 2009
Yes, I think that more people are looking to see what they are getting for THEIR money these days.

Poor old legislature.

Government is expensive. They are not humble supplicants for our property either, spending our money as if it means nothing to them.

Too bad we have to make them honest.

Ending on a positive note I am glad they shut the state offices down on Fridays. We can improve on that. Let's just open up in the evenings and shut down some bureaucracies completely. Or let's do it all on the internet.

The legislature has adopted a policy of giving money to bureaucracies, independent boards, etc. without any strings attached and then letting them do whatever they want with it.

Oversight and accountability appear to be foreign concepts to legislators who are afraid to to ask tough questions and hold people accountable. They are a bunch of wimps when it comes to protecting taxpayer funds.

Those living in Utah should use power of purse. I believe everyone living in Utah should have to give up all their luxury items such as cell phones, cable, cigarettes, drugs, energy drinks, drinking, vacations, brand-name food, restaurants, nice cars/trucks and every other luxury they have to pay for my healthcare and all other thing's as well. Not the State.

To be frank, the article lost all credibility when the second "GOP leaders need to get tougher" historical example was Democrat Scott Matheson.
