Mitt Romney is the right choice. Man, just listen to what he is saying when he says it. He's right on almost everytime.

Vote Mitt.

PCUT for MITT | 12:07 a.m. July 4, 2009
too bad ALL Americans have to suffer through the next few years with a Prez that is completely out of his league. Running the largest economy in the world with absolutely no experience and surrounded by people who pretty much have never had real jobs. Yes, most liberals are wards of the welfare mentality or spend their lives criticizing people who work and run businesses.

Mitt would have made a huge difference. There would not have been one cent spent on bankrupt automakers or financial institutions that were corrupted by federal regulators.

Too BAD...next time
The Wrong Choice | 12:13 a.m. July 4, 2009
Mitt Romney is the wrong choice. Man, just listen to what he is saying when he says it. He's wrong on almost everything.

Mitt Romney raised the capital gains tax. Mitt Romney signed a ban on assualt weapons. Mitt Romney funded the govenor's coalition on gay youth. Mitt Romney endorsed the Paul Tsongas Presidential Campaign. Ann Romney donated $500 to the Massachusetts Planned Parenthood. George Romney walked out on Barry Goldwater's convention speech.

Mitt Romney is the wrong man and has no place amoung conservatives. Sarah Palin is head and shoulders above this liberal.

Easy Call | 12:16 a.m. July 4, 2009
Romney is the most articulate, well spoken and most experienced candidate of either party. He has excellent business/economic recovery experience (something that we could really use in the White house right now!) and is one of the only Republicans that could rip Obama apart in a debate without appearing mean. I hope Americans get it right next time and can ignore the anti-Christian/Morman Liberal Media hate machine!
Joe Moe | 12:34 a.m. July 4, 2009
Talk to me about this in two or three years. Thanks.
Alaska Guy | 12:35 a.m. July 4, 2009
RE: Wrong Choice. Many conservatives in Alaska familiar with how she actually governs, do not consider Sarah a conservative. It is probably good that she quit, there is less record to recreate, distort or make up.
GK from England | 1:13 a.m. July 4, 2009
Americans would do no wrong backing Mitt Romney, but sadly, due to the immense and unfair left-wing media groups in America, e.g. ABC network and Salt Lake Tribune to name just two, a Mormon stands little chance of being voted into power. What a positive contribution Romney could make if only Americans could see through the Anti-Mormon slime oozing from much of their media.
Just keep me in the news | 3:00 a.m. July 4, 2009
Romney is much more intelligent than Palin. No contest if these are the two front-runners for 2012. Romney justs needs to keep his name out there, and this sort of article does the trick. Thanks, Sarah Palin, even if you were a bad VP choice.
Anonymous | 3:21 a.m. July 4, 2009
Romney would have been the best choice to fix this economy hands down.
A question for Palin supporters? | 4:37 a.m. July 4, 2009
Does she talk the talk or walk the walk?

I read about a week ago that Alaska accepted about twenty four million dollars from the
federal government for an airport for a village of 46 people about 300 miles west of Faitbanks.

In my opinion this sounds like another "Bridge to no where"

In one breath she talks against actions like this and it the next breath she accepts pork barrel projects with out a peep.

Does this seem a little inconsistent? Or am I suppose to not mention it because she is an evangelic conservative? By the way did we ever hear her thoughts about Mormonism and Romney?

Eugene | 5:28 a.m. July 4, 2009
Sure, I am a conservative and REALLY like Palin, but I also am a pragmatist and realize that she has no chance in a general presidential election. Although I REALLY like her and how she defends herself, she really did not handle some of her interviews well and showed her inexperience on the national stage.

Despite the assertions of Mr. Wrong Choice's previous posting, Romney is more palatable across the political spectrum and that is what it will take to win the election. Some Republicans crossed the aisle to vote for Obama since they did not like McCain so we deserve what we are now getting.

The country and its economy would have been in much better shape having Romney as president in order to provide the checks and balances on a runaway democratic congress.

Please don't blame it all on Bush. Yes, he did things that didn't make me happy, but he also had to deal with a Democrat-controlled Congress for the last two years of his presidency. Democrats do share in this mess and now own it by their scandalous spending of the past 6 months.

Go Mitt!
Megg | 6:20 a.m. July 4, 2009
The end result is Romney is mormon. People don't trust mormons and that will be his downfall.
Carl | 6:21 a.m. July 4, 2009
People will not elect a Mormon. They will also not elect Sarah Palin. The Republican party is full of non-conservatives and a lot of conservatives will not donate to the party because of it. There is precious little time to save the day, but until we begin to live the principles we tout, we are toast.
Don't know enough | 6:32 a.m. July 4, 2009
about Palin. The absolute hatred the media and the left have for her must mean they see something that scares them. I will probably take a closer look.
rightascension | 6:41 a.m. July 4, 2009
Palin is a political gimmick that is now taking herself way too seriously.

There is precedent for American voters to elect men to presidency after a single term as a governor

Tildennominated for presidency1876after one term as New York governor

Clevelandwon presidency1884after one term as New York governor

McKinleywon presidency 1896 after one term as Ohio governor

T Rooseveltwon vice presidency1900after one term as New York governor Then assumed presidency

Wilsonwon presidency1912after part term as New Jersey governor

Coolidgewon vice presidency1920after one term as MA governor Then assumed presidency

F Rooseveltwon presidency1932after two terms as New York governor

Deweynominated for presidency1944after one term as New York governor

Rockefellerran for presidency1960after part term as New York governor

Reaganran for presidency1968after part term as California governor

Carterwon presidency1976after one term as Georgia governor

None of them resigned governorship whining about the unblinking glare of negative publicity and the tedium of office.

Most Alaskans are conservative to the point that they are "Ron Paul leaning" Liberterians. They don't want the governement in their lives. They resent the fed. This is why Sarah Palin IS popular amoung conservatives in Alaska.

Mitt Romney is just too liberal.
Vote for Elmer Fud | 7:12 a.m. July 4, 2009
The way the dems are abusing power and Obama continues to break all his campaign promises weekly, even Elmer Fud could win the election in '12. Thanks dems for showing in just a few short months how utterly shallow and greedy your leadership is. Tax evasionist anyone for a cabinet seat?
Quesy Feeling | 7:14 a.m. July 4, 2009
If Romney's smart, he'll lay low for another year at least, jumping in to help conservatives get elected in 2010. If Sarah Palin's smart, she'll have a rational explanation for what she just did -- so far, it hasn't been all that great, even though I really, really like her. For anyone who thinks Romney's a liberal, turn to your left and shake hands with Atilla the Hun.
FUN! | 7:20 a.m. July 4, 2009
I am watching the Republican Party, the party of the rich and privileged, implode--and I am thoroughly enjoying it. You've got Mitt "I have no core values" Romeny and Sarah "the good Lord never blessed me with a brain" Palin both running for president. Both have very unfavorable ratings with the general public. Pres. Obama is guareenteed a second term! Thanks goodness!
Anonymous | 7:29 a.m. July 4, 2009
I hope the GOP can bring forth a candidate who could deal with affairs abroad and at home. I do not personally visualize Romney as one who will be able to capture the respect and cooperation of foreign leaders. In my mind he appears to be a person who willwant to dictate to others what is best for them. Bobby Jindl seems to be a brilliant, practical governor and with his ancestry and knowledge of Asian Americans I think he is an attractive contender. Sarah Palin has basically said that the fire in the kitchen is too hot up in Alaska--its hard to consider as a serious contender for president when she can't complete her term as governor. Romney has too many negatives with his past history of flip flopping, his religious beliefs who most people consider too bizarre, and his elitist image. There will just be another round of negative press. Already people are saying he will spend part of his personal millions. You can't buy the White House. It's not for sale.
To Wrong Choice | 7:56 a.m. July 4, 2009
and sarah palin's credentials are...? don't just criticize fmr. governor romney's agenda/legislative accomplishments, tell me what hard skills and political acumen your gal brings to the conservative ticket. as an independent, i'll vote for the BEST candidate (voted BO in '08 but not sure for '12) at the top of a party's ticket.

ah, let's examine palin's "strengths"....clothes and cosmetics shopping, State of AK ethics violations, an aversion to the national press during her VP-nominee turn in '08, and getting pissed @ Letterman b/c he confused your 14-year-old daughter with her sister, the unwed mother Bristol. great family values, BTW.

and what factor does romney's wife and father play in your analysis? laughable. i feel sorry for mccain (almost) and his minions. i wasn't fooled: palin was a joke from the get-go.
dallas wyeth | 7:58 a.m. July 4, 2009
Both Romney and Palin are great choices for running in 20012 i hope that both team up as V.P. and Presdient when one of them wins in 20012. i like both of them but right now i am voting and hoping that romney wins the republican election.
Georgia | 7:59 a.m. July 4, 2009
Among the Conservatives that I know, none find Palin to appear rational and I hang with a fairly conservative crowd. Most now discuss Romney as a potential candidate. And no, I'm not LDS.
Romney/Newt 2012 | 8:05 a.m. July 4, 2009
Nice call PCUT. I love Palin, but I think Romney and Newt are better qualified. No question Romney would do an outstanding job as President. Remember Gingrich was the one that balanced the budget in 1998 and the amazing smooth talker Clinton took credit for it. Newt orchestrated the Republican take over of congress in the 90s. We are a long ways off from 2012 and a lot can happen between now and then.
to PCUT for MITT  | 8:10 a.m. July 4, 2009
Wow, you have a short memory or just don't understand the process. Romney never ran against Obama. McCain did. And he lost. I might agree Romney would be better than Obama. But I do not agree that McCain would be.
The Ticket | 8:11 a.m. July 4, 2009
Romney Gingrich! This is the winner. The media has shown that it can take apart Palin. She can't overcome her weak showing from last time around. Romney will do like he did with the Olympics, come in and fix a failure.
Romney not wise choice | 8:31 a.m. July 4, 2009
I'm an active Mormon and I like Mitt Romney *a lot* as a family man, as a private citizen, and in his business dealings.

But I could never vote for the man to become Commander-in-Chief. Mitt was a bigger warmonger than Giuliani and McCain combined. He hired the most dubious war profiteers to be his principle foreign policy advisors and he replaced what could have been an incredible campaign platform with a racist, fearmongering, 'absolutely no caps on military spending' crazy campaign.

Especially after George (Mitt's Dad) Romney's presidential aspirations imploded when he spoke openly about some of the problems with our Vietnamese foreign policy -- comments that Mitt has said were vindicated by history -- I expected better of Mitt Romney. I simply don't believe Mitt is U.S. Presidential material.
Re easy call | 8:31 a.m. July 4, 2009
Rush Limbaugh says "that God nor Obama have a birth certicate",He is wrong because in Mormonism they do.
Which One? | 8:43 a.m. July 4, 2009
I don't know whether Alaskans should be relieved or peeved at Palin's announcement. She certainly has showed she has no commitment to her state and used the election for her own agenda. Let's see, this is her first term, she's stepping down with 1 and 1/2 years left of that term. She was gone for several months campaigning for McCain. Nope, not her. The voters didn't get what they voted for and that will or should haunt Palin the rest of her political career.

Good heavens, if she ran for and miraculously won the presidential nomination, would she cut and run out on that? She's making all women look flakey. Not good, sister, not good.
Brother Chuck Schroeder | 8:47 a.m. July 4, 2009
With Mitt Romney running with Sarah Palin, I think the Republicans are committing political suicide right before our eyes. Out of Iraq's frying pan, into an economic fire. Johnny comes marching home to no job thanks to the GOP and Obama's lies. Sarah Palin is the last hope for the GOP to return to conservatism and not this wishy-washy corrupt liberal party that has been infested with supporters of John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Rudy Guiliani. Huckabee will come out as a closet atheist. Remembering GOP Steele hates her guts, and would never support her as a run for President in 2012, and she don't have the funds to do it on her own. Sarah Palin abruptly announced she is resigning from office at the end of the month, a shocking move that rattled the Republican party they are scared of her, but left open the possibility she would seek and win a run for the White House in 2012. "GO-SARAH GO-GIRL" show them what your really made of.
Too early | 8:54 a.m. July 4, 2009
Romney is a target. He's campaigning way too early. Just yesterday Romney makes comments about his Mass health care plan vs. the one before Congress. They rip him apart over it.
So goes every issue.
His strength is in leadership. He's run a business. We'll surely need it by 2012.
But I fear he will be spent by then.
And they better get an improved answer to the Mormon question or he'll never make it out of the primary.
(Hint: Do NOT consult Karl Rove.)
Anonymous | 9:04 a.m. July 4, 2009
President Sarah Palin has a good ring-tone to it - however, Mitt Romney is a cut-n-run looser, and no one likes a looser. Palin is a winner. To my fellow Americans who still cherish the dream of our founding fathers, I wish you a wonderful and Happy Independence Day. To those of you who are willing to compromise your liberty and freedom in the hopes that Fedzilla will provide you an artificial blanket of security, enjoy your Dependence Day. Higher taxes and more government ultimately lead to economic genocide. Alternatively, lower taxes, less government, and more independence lead to prosperity for all who are willing to take advantage of it. Our forefathers who threw the tea over the side of the ship in Boston Harbor knew this. Fedzilla pushed through an unauthorized trillion-dollar economic stimulus bill that not one elected representative read before voting on it.

The article states that 73% of Repubs have a 'favorable' impression of Palin. Congrats sheep...way to support a candidate who just QUIT on her state. Great value system.

Palin is a joke...if the GOP tabs her to run in 2012, plan on another Dem victory. Don't cry about the Dems having control of Congress...not when you choose idiots to run for office.
Palin | 9:21 a.m. July 4, 2009
Is the biggest threat to the Democrats and their poor agenda. All one has to do is look at Obama's predictions for stimulus (failed), unemployment (failed), bank buy out and mergers (failed), auto industry (failed), love fest from the media (starting to fail).

Poor Obama's honeymoon is over, and of course I think Palin will be a thorn in the Democrats side until the Republican Party can shake out who will be their front runner come 2012. Will Palin run for President??? No! But she'll wreak havoc to the far left!!!
LDSTexan | 9:23 a.m. July 4, 2009
Mitt yes - Palin NO!!
The GOP Problem | 9:28 a.m. July 4, 2009
Presidential elections today will be won by the middle half of the votes in this country. The far right and far left half will vote for the candidate that most fits their rigid ideals. But the candidate that most appeals to a combination of independents and moderate conservatives and liberals will win the general election. This past election that was Oboma hands down. Sarah Palin will NEVER appeal to that group. I think Romney potentially could but he likely will never get his party's nomination because the evangelical conservative base (not the media) thinks Mormons are a cult. The only way he gets that far right vote is if the candidate pool continues to implode like it has the past couple of weeks. But there is a long time to go and someone will step up to be their Mormon alternative.

I still wonder if we LDS understand just how unloved we are in our own party? As soon as our money and organization (see Prop 8) are no longer needed we are back to cult status. And yet we continue to cast our lot with the Sarah Palin's of the world who really can't stand us.
Bro Chuck's Rant n Rave's | 9:38 a.m. July 4, 2009
President Sarah Palin in 2012, Mitt Romney veep "maybe". Conservatives need real Family Values. We know they like to be exempt. Like Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was having an extramarital ADULTERY affair, even as he led the charge against President Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky affair, he acknowledged in an interview with a conservative Christian group. If some use to be "tailor-trash" broad, now into the HIGH SOCIETY types, can't see a "tan line" where a wedding ring goes on a finger, and know he's married, she to needs to get glasses. These girl's are usually hired at function's and Parties, to satisfy these Power Player's, that are drunk with power, in exchange for political favors, along with a hefty campaign contributions checks.
Get a Clue | 9:46 a.m. July 4, 2009
To those of you who blame liberals for Romney's failure in the last election--look to your own party. He didn't get the REPUBLICAN vote in the primaries.

Romney is amazingly, shockingly ignorant on foreign policy. His recent statement about Obama supporting Iran's right to develop nuclear weapons underscores this. (Obama stated he believes Iran has the right for peaceful uses of nuclear power ie nuclear power plants). Actually, Romney has made a lot of stupid statements--like calling Ann Coulter a "moderate."

One unclear question? | 9:57 a.m. July 4, 2009
It sounds as if Mitt was pro-choice for a brief moment in his life and his wife. As a member of the LDS church, the Church has very strong statements about abortion. So was Romney pro-choice just to get elected as Governor, or is he anti-abortion now, just to become President? I like Romney from a political perspective, but I am wary of him as a Mormon, because he was ever pro-choice, he has been in too many high positions in the church to even slightly support abortion. I really want him to answer this, if nothing else, to members of the church. Is his flip-flop on abortion going to be his "mistress"?
Bill Baumgardner Sr. | 10:08 a.m. July 4, 2009
I am a good member of THE LORD"S CHURCH as Mitt is supposed to be, but I did not vote for him because he lied at the beginning. He DID support abortion & he DID support gay marriage, so what kind of member is he? Not my kind & surely not my kind of President. So "IF" he wants my vote, he will openly apologize to all of America for lying & be truthful form now on. What will it be Mitt? And if you still support these sinful things, forget it! Our members that are Dr's., nurses etc. are told NOT to be a part of abortions, so why is he different? Has the Church Authorities winked at what he does because of who he is? I hope not.
sapphire_407 | 10:14 a.m. July 4, 2009
If we can vote in a man who used to pray in a mosque, we can certainly vote for a Mormon. Romney is scandal free, a good businessman, and he is what we need to get America out of this econonomic mess. I like Palin but I'm glad she quit. She wasn't electible. Vote Romney in 2012.

Most all of these comments show total lack of understanding and education on the issues that face this country!!
ds | 10:57 a.m. July 4, 2009
Republican politicians need to get back to true conservative ideas and leave the 'family values' stuff behind. Family values are not conservative values which are smaller government, less governmental interference and fiscal responsibility. If Mitt Romney took that stance he might get elected. But the current base of the republican party is the evangelicals don't like Mormons. They consider it a cult. You know who they are. They're screaming at you during conference.

Sarah Palin had responsibilities to the people of Alaska and she has reneged. That, among her other failings, should make her unelectable.
stupidness | 11:03 a.m. July 4, 2009
the answer to the morman question...: BARACK OBAMA he is black and went to an extreme black church... had friends that were convicted admitted terrorists to the UNITED STATES... where does that begin to compare to the idea that "Mormon is worse"
the Point- america doesnt care if he is mormon... only the uneducated people that live here do... to get past it... better educate the American people
1. about Mormons
2. The million times Romney has explained his stance changes on pro choice issues
3. not to believe everysingle thing they read online or in a news article...

you want to know the truth... go out and find it from both sides. stop showing how stupid you are by making rash comments that make no sense and media rhetoric... grow a backbone and get an opinion of your own... not some blogger online or some news reporter on CNN or FoxNews

America time to grow up and be responsible. Power comes with education. The more people are educated the more they are able to make right and wrong choices... maybe we should find politicians who are good people... not career politicians...

Perhaps President Sarah Palin in 2012 should of also went to Iraq today, we know Mitt Romney is anti-war and never served. Fresh off of the planet Klingon. Vice President Joe Biden celebrated the Fourth of July with his son and other American troops in Iraq on Saturday, a day after warning Iraqi leaders that U.S. assistance will be jeopardized if the country reverts to ethnic and sectarian violence. Biden began Independence Day by greeting more than 200 U.S. soldiers from 59 countries who were becoming American citizens at a naturalization ceremony in a marble domed hall at one of Saddam Hussein's palaces at Camp Victory, the U.S. military headquarters on the outskirts of Baghdad. He then had lunch with the 261st Theater Tactical Signal Brigade from Delaware, to which his son, Beau, belongs. Beau Biden stood in the back as his father greeted the troops. Sarah Plain, This weekend, as we celebrate with family and friends, we especially remember those members of our military who are away from their families, serving our country at home and abroad. We thank them for their sacrifice.

I, too, am an active member of the LORD'S TRUE CHURCH and, like Bro. Baumgardner, will not vote for Mitt. He has unequivocally supported pro-torture policies of the Bush administration that are completely inconsistent with the thinking of the LDS (or any Christian) Church. Mitt also moved away from the correct position on both gay rights (he now seeks to deprive homosexuals of equal civil rights whereas he earlier supported them) and abortion (he now wants to allow the government to put its nose into personal medical decisions between woman and their doctors and respected their privacy before).

True conservative thinking respects personal autonomy and civil liberties. Advocating torture, discrimination and criminalizing intensely personal family decisions undermine those things.
