Preholiday fare opening this week in area theaters
This week is a bit of calm before the "Christmas Carol" theater storm.
Only a few shows are opening this week as many theaters prepare for their Christmas shows. But if you're already in the mood for a little Christmas cheer, there is a Scrooge out there for you.
"Scrooge: The Musical," Nov. 19-Dec. 19, Rodgers Memorial Theatre, 292 E. Pages Lane, Centerville.
Charles Dickens' beloved classic comes to life. Good cheer and merry music follow everyone's favorite miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, on his journey to discover the true meaning of Christmas. Music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse.
Shows are nightly, except Sunday, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10-$17 (801-298-1302 or www.rodgersmemorial.com)
Here are the rest of this week's openings:
"A New Brain," Dark Horse Company Theatre, Nov. 20-22, The Egyptian Theatre, 328 S. Main, Park City.
Dark Horse transfers its production from the Old Post Theater at Fort Douglas to Park City for three more nights.
The show is a musical journey of healing, as Gordon faces a medical emergency.
Shows are Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m., and Sunday, 6 p.m. Tickets are $15-$20 (435-649-9371 or www.parkcityshows.com)
"Musical Theatre Review," Nov. 20-24, Shepherd Union Building, Weber State University, Ogden.
WSU presents a new performing group, "Encore," a 24-person singing group featuring WSU's musical theater students. The evening will consist of songs from "The Lion King," "Spamalot," "Jersey Boys," "A New Brain" and "Spring Awakening."
Shows are nightly 7:30 p.m., free but donations accepted.
