SWIMMING/DIVING: With four teams on the Richards Building pool deck Friday, BYU came out on top of each team with the women competing against New Mexico, Seattle University and Boise State and the men against Seattle.

For the men, BYU (2-1, 0-1 MWC) beat Seattle 184-108. On the women's side, BYU (5-0, 2-0 MWC) beat Mountain West Conference opponent New Mexico 234-65, Seattle University 241-52 and Boise State 199-99. UNM beat Seattle 200-93, BSU defeated UNM 201-97 and BSU beat Seattle 228-64.

"We had a good week of practice leading up to this meet and it paid off," said BYU head coach Tim Powers. "We didn't push as hard as we did last week, but we still managed to get the job done, so that's important. We look forward to the Toshiba Invitational in two weeks where we expect to swim well at sea level."

Senior Natasha Menezes took home two wins in the 200 and 500 freestyle events while junior John Kendrick tallied two wins in the same events.

The women started out the meet winning the 200-medley relay with Candice Smith leading off in the backstroke, Sara Jayne Christiansen Baldwin in the breaststroke, Rachel Grant in the butterfly and Aleesha Miller in the freestyle. In the men's 200-medley relay, BYU's "B" relay fought to the end, being out-touched by Seattle by .04 seconds. The "A" 200-medley relay team of Jeff Ferrell, David Mason, Brent Stevenson and Christian Keil finished with a time of 1:35.36.

In the 1000 freestyle, Michelle Menezes and Amy Xu were neck-and-neck the entire race, going 1-2 in the event. Menezes posted a time of 10:28.61 while Xu chalked up a 10:29.22. Freshman Hayden Palmer led the men in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:00.32, with Chad Fong behind him in second with a time of 10:21.93.

Senior Natasha Menezes won the 200 freestyle, clocking in at 1:51.23. Kendrick followed suit in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:41.90, winning the event.

Smith next won the women's 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.07 and Keil placed second in the men's 100-yard backtroke with a time of 53.37, behind Bryson Chiu of Seattle University (52.71).
