Vandals do $200,000 damage to vehicles
CLEARFIELD — Four adults and one teen have been arrested following a two-month vandalism spree that police say did an estimated $200,000 in damage to vehicles in Davis and Weber counties.
The five individuals arrested Thursday are believed to be responsible for hundreds of criminal-mischief cases from North Ogden to Kaysville that began Sept. 1, said Clearfield Police Cpl. Kyle Jefferies.
"They were bored," he said. "That was the only motive. They were bored and felt like it was a fun thing to do."
Officers from Clearfield and Syracuse caught up with the suspects following a report of someone throwing a brick at a vehicle in Clinton. A description of the group's vehicle was sent out to officers and located at a Syracuse home Thursday morning.
Jefferies said the suspects were interviewed and admitted to damaging vehicles by breaking out windows with rocks, BB guns, Airsoft guns, pumpkins, bricks, eggs and other items. They also admitted to committing vehicle burglaries in the area.
"The total amount of damage, so far, that we can estimate is between $100,000 and $200,000," Jefferies said.
Police booked Brandon Kenneth Berry, 19; Colby James Hardison, 18; Jeffrey Cody Jensen, 18; and Trevor McClintock, 18; into the Davis County Jail on multiple felony counts, Jefferies said. A 17-year-old was also taken into custody and will be held at the Farmington Bay Youth Detention Center, the corporal said.
