Thrilling work

Your article concerning Greg Mortenson, who is building schools for girls in Afghanistan and Pakistan, is thrilling (Oct. 28). Is it not possible that the education of these girls might be one real positive step to curbing the growth and actions of terrorist groups in the future?

"Educate a girl, and you educate a community." Some of us will think of an ancient civilization whose sons stood up to evil with great courage because "their mothers taught them."

A standing ovation to Mr. Mortenson.
