HILL AIR FORCE BASE — Residents around Hill Air Force Base may notice sirens, smoke, explosion sounds, additional flying and other activity there over the next week.

The base is participating in an Operational Readiness Exercise through Nov. 9. The training is held at various times during the year and is important for the Air Force's success in conducting wartime operations.

The exercise requires airmen to wear chemical gear and gas masks, conduct self-aid and buddy care and take cover at different times. It offers realistic scenarios to enhance the flying skills of pilots in the 388th and 419th fighter wings.

People may hear the public-address system alerting exercise participants to the simulated attack conditions. In addition, night-flying operations may increase during the exercise.
