2 charged in beating of 'friend'
Two women accused of kidnapping their "friend," beating her and trying to get her to admit to a crime, were each charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault Friday.
Rosemarie Coyt and Lilibeth Yi, both 21, were charged in 3rd District Court. The two are accused of jumping their friend on Oct. 18, just as she arrived at an apartment complex near 3800 West and 3400 South.
Coyt and Yi momentarily ran away after someone yelled, "police," according to court documents. But they came back and the victim tried to lock herself in her car. Yi opened the hatchback to the vehicle and crawled in after the victim, court documents state.
The woman got out of her car, but found Coyt waiting for her. Coyt "began hitting her in the face and head with an anti-theft device," according to court documents.
The victim was then pulled by her hair into another vehicle. The two women continued to hold the victim down, hit and yell at her as the vehicle drove off, according to court records.
The three women went to a house near 3300 South and 6000 West where the struggle continued. The defendants continued hitting the victim as well as drenching her with a hose, according to court records. Police said the defendants wanted their victim to confess to a burglary that happened a week earlier.
The commotion prompted neighbors to call police. When officers arrived, they found the victim had two black eyes, an open cut over one eye and a small laceration on the other eyelid.
Coyt and Yi were taken into custody.
