Prince Charles plans to make a formal complaint against a tabloid newspaper that broke a story about a minor sports injury Prince Harry suffered at school, his office said Friday.

The prince "is deeply disappointed by the reaction of the editor of the Daily Mirror to the simple and straightforward appeal for Prince Harry to be allowed privacy at school," said the prince's spokeswoman, speaking on condition of anonymity. She said Charles would make a formal complaint to the Press Complaints Commission, the industry's self-regulatory body.

A letter from Charles' office, published by The Mirror Friday, said the injury was an incident of "very minor bruising."

Charles had demanded an apology Thursday after the newspaper ran a front-page editorial under the headline "Harry's had an accident." The editorial reproduced a palace letter about the injury, with details blacked out at the insistence of Charles' office.

The letter said Charles did not want the accident publicized because it was not in the public interest.
