Big mouth is Malone's woe

I think that most fans can understand Karl Malone's frustration with how his pay compares to others in the league. How many have worked with someone who has made as much, or more, money than yourself, for far less results? Did it make you upset? The difference is, we wouldn't take our frustrations to the media. One of the things that I have always admired about Malone is his unbelievable self-control on the court. If he could only apply that same self-control off the court, no one would be criticizing him now. It could have been so easy.

Malone could have advised Larry Miller, owner of the Utah Jazz, that at the end of his contract he would be looking for a substantial increase in salary. If Miller said "no," then Malone would move on. Nothing else would need to be said. There is nothing to gain by voicing his frustrations to the media. If Malone does move on, he will be missed - not only as a player but as a generous person in our community. As far as the NBA lockout is concerned, how many would like to see a hard cap on ticket prices?Dave Catmull
