Jefferson was no Clinton

Demont H. Howell's letter to the Readers' Forum in the Nov. 15 Deseret News comparing Thomas Jefferson's relationship with Sally Hemings to Bill Clinton's sexual liaisons is indeed hard-hitting. He, as a Clinton supporter, makes a point in a way that no Clinton detractor ever could.

It takes a special kind of blindness to be able to compare a widower taking up a mon-ogamous relationship with a woman that he was unable to marry because of the laws in his day with a married man using an employee of roughly the same age as his daughter for no other purpose than his own self-gratification. It says a lot about the kind of people Clinton supporters must be if they are willing to drag Thomas Jefferson, one of the greatest thinkers our country has produced, through the mud with innuendo and half-truths in order to defend the truly sleazy and self-serving actions of Bill Clinton.Brad Daw
