To the editor:

Recently, the Board of Directors of the Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce met and endorsed the 1998 bid for the Winter Olympics, as well as support for the Ski Interconnect System. As an avid powder skier, I can see how the large crowds would inconvenience some skiers. However, in light of our flat economy, I, for one, would certainly be willing to be inconvenienced for this tremendous boost to our economy.

Certainly one of the most positive and saleable features of our area is the scenery and recreational opportunities available so close to a large city.

All we need to do is expose ourselves to the world (and the tourist dollar). What better way than to support the 1998 Winter Olympic bid?

Doug Thompson

Chairman, Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce
